Winter Comfort Via Accessories

Hurricane Sandy left the nation with a smile and a whole lot of damage! Not to mention the chilly weather that we have been feeling lately.

One minute, I'm here wearing my fall jacket...

and the next I'm in a hurry to find gloves and hats!

A few days ago I was outside raking the leaves of my house, and I notice high school teenagers crossing the street. Some of the guys were lifting their jeans due to the fact that their pants were half way down their bottom. There was only one girl, who looked like she was just tagging along. This child was the only person within the group wearing any winter accessories. I’m assuming that she was the only person who checked the weather that morning. I know for a fact that all those guys were freezing their cheeks off! Please do not be like these senseless fools. Bundle up! You never know when winter’s breath will crept into your lungs.

Some winter accessories that are stylish AND can be used to help the body evade the cold:

  • Infinity Scarves: protective wind blocker for the cold. This scarf is different from traditional scarves. It has no ends and is put on –instead of around- the neck. Try to get a wool scarf –it is much warmer than an ordinary scarf. You can also use the infinity scarf in varies ways. Check out this video!

In the end, any type of scarf is adequate!

  • Hats:  hats are essential during the Burrrr seasons, especially it’s snowing or just plain windy. But with this type of hat, you not only are heating up your head but also your ears. Don’t create ear popsicle!

  • Earmuffs: these ear burners are classic accessories. They are not used as much but are still being created  in different and styles ways for both men and women. It's also a great way to NOT mess up your hairstyle. Time to get muffled up!

Head Warmers are similar and can also be used to warm up frozen ears!

Naked Wrists

Wrists! These "munecas" are a beautiful thing. They can steadily hold heavy plastic bags, hold my stressed out head, and look fashionably cute, when I give them attention of course. I don't understand why but I always had this fetish of NOT having my wrists naked. It grew worse when I entered college and was able to show for myself.

It all started with my mother. She isn't De la mode per say, but she constantly wore gold. I would always see my mother with a gold bracelet dangling from her tan-ish left wrist. Considering that my mother is just plain beautiful, that specific piece of jewelry always made her shine ever so brightly in my eyes.

Now, I find it very attractive to have a bracelet on my wrist. I always carry  a scrunchy on my right wrist however, my left wrist has always been my signature wrist in display. Why?

-I don't have to write with my left hand
- Because I'm busy using my right hand, people with notice the creative bracelet that I may have on (I am very picky when shopping for bracelets )

Forever 21 and H & M, have decent wrist accessories, however when shopping, please do not hesitate to look elsewhere. The fashion world is huge and full of diversity, just like the world we live in. I ,as the experience shopper that I am, always look around not only in the malls, but also in urban downtown stores and even stores that are not in my age group. Because I embrace uniqueness, I try to look around in thrift stores, city stores, etc. in order to get the better end of the deals.

if i was to simply shop in the same stores as everyone else, I would dress just like them, which would cause people to chatagerize me. I do not wish to be catagerize. therefore, i like what i like and in order for me to find what i like i have to search far and wide; just like alot of other things in the world.

In this day and age, beauty is defined in many different ways. Some people may believe beauty is a smile, cloths, and even what is within a person. Some see beauty as a way to express who one is through clothing and being able to use variety with color. I think of beauty as that and much more. My definition of beauty is in the wrists and hands, the neck and the ears. Those are some of the body parts where I, as a Womyn (not a typo),  can express my definition of beauty.

Jewelry is known to be "personal ornaments." Ok...? Last time I checked, my body is not a Christmas tree. In my opinion, jewelry are simply compliments of the body; these precious metals emphasize the beauty that I already acquire.

This blog will talk about jewelry; old jewelry  new jewelry,  rusty jewelry, allll types of jewelry  from the beginning of time these accessories characterized us as women. So what better way to pay homage to these trinkets than by speaking of them. Enjoy and not once think of yourself as the Rockefeller Christmas tree, but a walking diamond-made star.
